Meet the CAA Agent Who is Crocheting Blankets to Make Ends Meet

PBS star has had enough.

From a bush outside of the CAA building, I can now confirm that up-and-coming CAA Agent, Todd Franklin, has taken up crocheting to stay afloat financially during these uncertain times in Hollywood. I caught up with Franklin during a swap meet in Centerpiece Park, to ask about his latest money-making endeavor.

“It’s always been hard in the business, but right now, this might be the worst it’s ever been I guess,” Franklin said, before bartering with a former client over three blankets (he made the sale, offering the customer a buy two get one deal). “I’m not selling a lot of TV shows right now, but what I lack in TV sales, I more than make up for with blanket sales. Honestly, I think I’ve got the most sales out here at the swap meet.”

After chasing off a few squirrels that tried to climb his blanket line, Franklin shared the inspiration behind his blankets.

“No, I didn’t make these. They’re my grandmother’s,” Franklin said before checking his work email on his phone, hoping for some good news on the TV end (it never came). “The sweet thing about this setup is that I get more than 10% of the money, since she’s dead. I’m crocheting some blankets myself, but no one at this swap meet can really afford those. That’s my premium collection.”

We caught up with one of Franklin’s customers to ask them why they bought a blanket.

“I’m at home a lot, on account of there being no roles available,” Ginny Easton, one of Franklin’s former clients shared. “I’m normally a commercial actor, but all the big stars are in ads these days, so I’m just here, buying blankets so I can nap on my couch and watch my favorite stars in TV ads that I should have gotten.”

At press time Franklin spun off his crocheted blanket business and started making embroidered pillows. The bush I hid in for this scoop was a Cozy Willow.
