Jack Quaid Lived with Companion Cube for a Year to Help Prepare for ‘God of War’ Role
“CC is a slob and I love them.”
From a bush somewhere in Santa Monica, I can now confirm that Jack Quaid has spent the last year living with Portal star, Companion Cube, to help him prepare for the role of Phranque, the gelatinous cube in the upcoming God of War: Laufey for the PlayStation 5.
“I didn’t know the first thing about being a cube,” Quaid admitted, talking to us stuffed into a box, still fully in character. “Dad met some gaming dude on a yacht called Full Steam Ahead. Turns out, that guy worked with a cube one time a few decades back. He luckily still had a working relationship with that cube. He made some calls and a few days later I’m bunking with CC in their Ocean Beach villa.”
Quaid and Cube did not get along right away.
“They’re a grumpy old cube,” Quaid said, before sharing a story about an hour-long argument the two had over a dirty dish left in the sink. “Three months in, I was ready to give in. I was going to call Sony and tell them to find someone else to play Phranque. But then I saw it. CC was so hard on me and constantly pushing me to be better, because as a cube, you’re going to be pushed around a lot. By your scene partner. By the director. By everybody in your life. At that moment, I saw CC for the first time. And I knew we were going to be connected forever.”
Cube looks back fondly at their year with Quaid.
“I’m not much of a talker,” Cube said, taking a drag on a cigarette while staring out at the ocean. “But that kid is going to do remarkable things in this town. Chalamet who? AmIRight [sic]?”
At press time, Quaid called Cube with tears in his eyes, to inform them that he had been tapped to play Companion Cube in an upcoming Portal adaptation. The bush I hid in for this scoop was a Jelly Bush.
