‘Highguard’ Film Adaptation Announced
Full theatrical release planned.
From a bush outside of Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, I can now confirm that the legacy studio has greenlit a film adaptation of the 2026 video game Highguard. Filmmaker Craig Mazin is attached to write and direct. We caught up with Mazin outside of the studio to get the skinny on his latest adaptation.
“After putting nearly 1000 hours into Highguard, it is a dream come true to be able to bring my new favorite game world to a broader audience,” Mazin said, in full Una cosplay. “I want to thank the team at Wildlight Entertainment for creating a fun sandbox and for letting me play in that box over the last few weeks. I need to get busy writing this movie, but all I want to do right now is go home and play the game all night.”
Mazin continued to sing the game’s praises as he shared early details about the project.
“Well obviously, Una will be the star of the first movie,” Mazin said, whipping his white-haired wig around. “Whoops, did I let the cat out of the bag? Yeah, I think we’ve got a franchise here. This IP just screams, “make a bunch of movies,” to me. Between the game, this first movie, and all the sequels I’m praying for, I think Highguard is one of those special series that span across generations.”
Riding high off their 2025 theatrical run, Co-CEOs of Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, Pam Abdy and Mike De Luca were sent into a panic when I asked them about the upcoming adaptation.
“Wait, Mike, I thought you canceled that,” Abdi asked De Luca who stared blankly while sipping on a $45 smoothie.
“I thought you canned it,” De Luca replied as they both scoured their emails looking for a cancellation. “We need to get Mazin on the phone before this goes public. And you, paper boy, you need to scrub this piece from your site. Do you know how foolish WB will look if we greenlight an adaptation of something that doesn’t have that big of a fanbase? It could be the end of WB as we know it.”
At press time Mazin had yet to reply to the multiple cancellation emails from Abdy and De Luca. The bush I hid in for this scoop was a Firecracker Flower.
