Report: Dad Rewatching ‘Train Dreams’ Again
Considering becoming a logger.
From a bush in Echo Park, I can now confirm that area dad, Trevor Austin, has started his latest rewatch of Train Dreams on Netflix. Austin’s children gathered in the kitchen to prepare for the fallout from the latest viewing.
“This is like view three hundred for him,” said Sammy, 17, Trevor’s oldest son, who later shared that his dad hasn’t attended one of his many baseball games in the last few years. “I don’t see what he sees in this movie. It’s so boring. Like nothing happens and then the guy is sad and then he’s on a plane and he’s happy. I just don’t get my old man. How is this more exciting than JV baseball?”
The Austin kids had this viewing of Train Dreams down to a science, pinpointing what part of the movie their father was on based on the sounds he was making.
“He’s sobbing. That means we’re about at the 45-minute mark," said Reggie, 14, the middle child of the family, who shared that her dad hasn’t remembered her birthday since the first one. “Why couldn’t he be more into a less boring movie. My friend’s dad has seen 2 Fast 2 Furious 7000 times. He says cool things like, ‘Ejecto seato cus’ and he has never forgotten to pick up his kids from swim practice. I wish he were my dad.”
We caught up with Trevor toward the end of his latest viewing.
“It’s just a beautiful film,” Trevor said with fresh tears running down his face. “It makes you want to cherish life and live it to the fullest. That’s what I’m going to do. Live. No more sitting around and waiting for things to happen. I’m going to quit my accounting job and become a logger, right after I watch Train Dreams again.”
At press time, Reggie Austin confirmed that today was her birthday and that her father had not noticed. The bush I hid in for this piece was a Bad Dad Bush.
