And Away We Go
From a bush in Hollywood, I can now confirm that legendary director David Fincher cut 300 slurs from Quentin Tarantino‘s screenplay for The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth. Fincher cites that the cuts come out of necessity for the theatrical release of the upcoming follow-up to 2019’s Once Upon a Time…In Hollywood.
“There were three movies-worth of slurs in Quentin’s script,” Fincher said in a recent interview. “Now don’t get me wrong, even after my cuts there are still a lot of slurs in the movie. I wanted to maintain Quentin’s vision, while also working to meet the vision Brad [Pitt] and I have for the final movie. If you’re really upset about all the cut slurs, maybe check out the novelization when it hits bookshelves, I’m sure they’ll keep them all in there.”
Brad Pitt returns as the titular Cliff Booth and continues his long-term working relationship with Fincher.
“Thank God David said yes,” Pitt said in a recent interview with a whiskey in one hand and a cigarette in the other. “Don’t get me wrong, I like Quentin. I think he’s an amazing filmmaker, but if I had to listen to one more conversation about kung-fu movies or feet, I was going to lose my shit on him. I mean come on; the last movie got me drinking again. You think that was just a coincidence?”
Tarantino is taking the changes in stride.
“I’m way too busy hiding from doing my tenth movie, but I was originally going to play the character whose lines were cut,” Tarantino said in a recent podcast before calling out Paul Dano for his acting skills. “Yeah, I would have been these two racist twins who were child stars, long forgotten by Hollywood. Cutting those lines is not a move I would make if I were still doing the movie, but it sounds like David is at least keeping one of the twins in the movie, thank God. Their third act scene is vital to the plot. I just hope he casts anyone but Paul Dano in the role.”
At press time, Fincher confirmed that Dano would be making a cameo appearance in The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth. The bush I hid in for this scoop was an X Bush.
