‘Scrubs’ Reboot Starts with Zach Braff Bludgeoning Characters Introduced in Season 9

Out with the new, in with the old.

From a bush outside of the “Scrubs” red carpet premiere event, I can now confirm that the tenth season of the returning sitcom, opens with Zach Braff’s Dr. JD Dorian, bludgeoning characters who were introduced in the show’s 2009 spin-off season. Braff discussed the violent opening with me, on the red carpet.

“We wanted to honor those characters heading into the new season,” Braff said, wearing a superb Gucci suit, with a T-Mobile t-shirt underneath. “It was great getting to work with Kerry, Mike, and Dave again. Even though we only had them on set for a day, it was nice revisiting those relationships and letting them know whose show this is.”

Braff, who’s been busy raking in the T-Mobile money the last few years, says he’s ready to get back to Sacred Heart, even after the season 8 finale.

“I feel like we left some runway for JD and the crew to come back to,” Braff said, before singing Peter Gabriel’s The Book of Love in its entirety. “Like let’s explore JD aging. I want to know what this character is like when he gets that first AARP letter in the mail. Or what about him becoming a grandparent? Sure, that’s hinted at in the season 8 finale, but now we can actually explore it and don’t have to leave it up to our imagination.”

Show creator and reboot executive producer, Bill Lawrence, also stopped by to chat ahead of the premiere.

“I hate to see those season 9 characters go,” Lawrence said, while balancing a stack of scripts in his hands, from his multiple ongoing projects,” But the people spoke. They didn’t want exciting new characters, they wanted a shot of nostalgia, right in the arm. Who am I to deny the audience their comfort food? It’ll also get Zach out of those God awful T-Mobile commercials. It’s a win-win.”

At press time Braff sprinted from an interview to ride into the premiere on co-star Donald Faison’s back, like an airplane. The bush I hid in for this scoop was a Cox Willow.
