Paul Walter Hauser Cast in Netflix’s Live-Action Scooby-Doo Series as Scrappy Doo

Let me at’em.

From a bush outside a Warner Bros. Studio, I can now confirm that Paul Walter Hauser is set to join the untitled Scooby Doo project at Netflix, as Scrappy Doo. Showrunner-writer-EPs Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg shared the casting in a recent behind the scenes video.

“We’re really excited to have Paul on board,” Appelbaum said as he held up a dog costume that resembled Scrappy Doo. “He’s going to be a great Scrappy. Unfortunately, Netflix didn’t budget for CGI, so Paul is going to have to wear this costume. But if anyone can make it work, he can.”

Later in the video, Appelbaum and Rosenberg were hit with a budget cut that sent them scrambling to make changes.

“Okay, Paul is now playing both Scrappy and Scooby Doo.” Rosenberg said, holding up an identical dog costume to the one Appelbaum had shared earlier. “These costumes don’t look different enough, but if anyone can sell that they’re playing two characters, I hope it’s Paul Walter Hauser.”

Netflix co-CEO, Ted Sarandos, a staunch supporter of the latest Scooby Doo adaptation, shared the details of the show’s budget cut and how it will affect the production moving forward.

“We just didn’t want this thing to balloon up and drive up our subscription prices,” Sarandos said in a recent interview while sky diving. “So we moved some things around and cut the episode order down from eight to four. Viewers are still getting Scooby Doo, just in fewer and more concentrated bursts.”

At press time, it was announced that all Netflix subscription tiers would be seeing a price increase by the time you finish reading this. The bush I hid in for this scoop was a Tuhdum Bush.
